Atlanta Braves Watch

The Atlanta Braves which is often times called America’s team, produced one of the best players to ever play the game. The players name was Hank Aaron. Aaron was one of the best players to put the Braves uniform on.

Beyond being one of the best Atlanta Braves, Aaron was also a true Hall of Famer. During his time with the Atlanta Braves Aaron set many of his records.

Atlanta Braves Watch

It was during this time that the Legend would set records that to this day have yet be broken. Many players have tried to break the records, but have had limited success. Record breaking is not something that happens everyday.

There are records that Aaron set that will never be touched in a million years. These are a milestone that the team is grateful for as well as honored to be a part of the historic past of Hank Aaron. These are a part of America’s history.

The fans that went and witnessed these records being set were part of a historic run that will never be repeated in a long time. In 1982 Hank Aaron received his appointment in the Baseball Hall of Fame. However, he will always have a role in the history of the Atlanta Braves.

Besides Hank Aaron, there have been several other players that have made theAtlanta Braves America’s team. The1990′s saw a trio of pitchers that gave their opponents fits when at bat.

The pitchers were John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Steve Avery. This trio of pitchers gave a great performance from the pitchers mound. Besides this trio, there was a dominant player that made an impact at the plate when they were at bat.

One of these players that is still making his presence felt is Chipper Jones. During his time with the team, Jones has made a substantial impact in the department of getting the ball out far and into the stands.

During the 1990′s, the Tomahawk chop was made into a standby for the teams fans. In addition to this, there was the chant that the fans led in order to rally the team when they were down late in the game.

This still is popular among fans at Braves games. As long as there is a Brave placing the jersey on, there will be fans that will always rally the team on with the Tomahawk chop as well as the war chant. This has become a popular part of the teams tradition.

The Atlanta Braves are considered to be America’s team, for the foreseeable future though they will continue to maintain this destination. There have been a lot of terrific players that have passed through the city of Atlanta.

These players have left their mark on the city as well as the team. The team has been a melting pot for some of the greats in the game. One never knows, there may be another world champion that will enter into the Atlanta Braves team and will leave their mark.

Florida Marlins, Have The Marlins Gone Fishing

The Marlins are a pro MLB team based in Orlando, Florida. They are a newer team formed in the early 90s, 1993 to be exact. A Florida Marlins Watch is a great timepiece and a great way to show you loyalty to the Marlins.

Considering their youth to have won two world series, first in the year of ’97 and then again in ’03 they have certainly made a decent enough name for themselves. Their roster has never been too much to brag about however there has been some touch of the hall of fame to come to the team.

Currently as the Special Assistant to theGeneral Manager is Tony Pérez he is the only standing member of the hall of fame to be in touch with the Marlins. His career was big in the early ‘60s leading into the mid ‘70s and then again in the late ‘80s while he played for the Cincinnati Reds.

The man finished his career with a .279 batting average with 379 home runs and 1652 runs batted with 1272 runs scored, a very reputable career that earned him a hall of fame spot in the year 2000.

The Marlins have also had another member who will be in the hall of fame, and he brought his career to a close playing for them in the mid ‘90s. Andre Dawson ended his career in ’96 playing for the Marlins.

Andre Dawson, nicknamed “The Hawk,” is soon to be inducted into the hall of fame for playing center/right field. He started his career in 1976 and played for thirty years retiring in 1996. Most of the mans career was with the Montreal Expos but his final years were with the Marlins, looks like he decided to retire a bit before actually stopping his career.

He was a stand up player, an 8-timeNational League All-Star who was named Rookie of the Year in 1977 when he ended the season with a batting average of .282 and having 19 home runs with 65 RBI (runs batted in).

He then went on to take the MVP (most valuable player) award in 1987 with leading in home runs in the league at a whooping 49, and 137 RBI, this is not to mention being runner up in both 1981 and 1983 for the MVP award.

Dawson is one of only six players in the MLB, and the only one of the six to not have played on the San Francisco Giants to have 300 home runs and 300 stolen bases during a career.

While not being inducted into the Hall of Fame yet, he is set to be on July 25th of this year, 2010 making him the first player to be in the Hall of Fame and have played for the Florida Marlins.

The team has had a short lived life so far but has made it’s impact, while still staying true to the states nurturing nature the team will take older players on their way down in terms of their career but not letting it effect their play.

In just over ten years the team has twice been touched by those in the hall of fame, and twice taken home the World Series, this is not bad considering the young age of the team. The current roster could hold potential to show some aggressive expansion in years to come.

They have only made it into play offs as Wild cards but one can never write of a team, one can never predict when they may bounce back.

Arizona Diamondbacks Watch

The Arizona Diamondbacks are a team that is full of tradition, and has a storied past. Of course if you are a true fan of this team, then you already know this.

This team is built on tradition and is looking to make their mark on the baseball world. There have been a history concerning these players.

Many of the past players of the Arizona Diamondbacks have led the team to several division championships along with a World Series title. One of the Greatest players to put the Diamondbacks uniform on was Luiz Gonzalez.

Gonzalez led the diamondbacks with almost all the team records in all categories. During his stay with the Diamondbacks Gonzalez led the team with the most games played.

He had a total of 1,194 games that was during the timeline of 1999 until 2006. Besides the most games played record, Gonzalez led the team also in at bats along with hits.

This for Gonzalez was no small feat, as many players have tried to match these records and have not been able to as of yet.

Arizona fans can post an Arizona Diamondbacks Watch for Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was a true great when it came to the Arizona Diamondbacks. This player has been a leader for the team. As a result of this, Arizona Diamondbacks have struggled to get out the gate since Gonzalez retired in 2006.

Besides Gonzalez, there have been several other players that have held single-season records for the Diamondbacks. One of these great’s was Carlos Baerga.

He holds the single-season record for the best batting average for the team. During the 2003 season he had a .343 batting average. This mark has not been reached since then.

In the pitching department Randy Johnson has led the team in the past with almost any and all records that can be set. During his time with the Diamondbacks Johnsonmade his opponents regret going against him, the pitching average that he had was out of this world.

In 2002 Randy Johnson had 24 pitching wins while playing for the Diamondbacks. This mark was a milestone in his career as well as the team’s history.

While there have been pitchers in the past that have tried to make their mark. There will always be one Randy Johnson, he is a legend in the minds of the people ofArizona, and will be a sure-fire Hall of Fame inductee.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are a team that has been at the top of the mountain, they are a team that will once again return to the top. They are just waiting for another player who will make records shatter in the future.

The question is what minor league player is out there waiting for their chance to write their name in the record books for the Arizona Diamondbacks. It will be fascinating to watch the team make their climb back to the top of the baseball world.

There is sure to be a future Hall of Fame name in the Arizona Diamondbacks roster in the coming years. For fans of this team, it will just be a matter of time before that player emerges

Atlanta Braves Baseball and the Great Greg Maddux

Anybody who follows Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Atlanta Braves Baseballorganization has undoubtedly heard of the great Greg Maddux. The dominant pitcher of the decade of the 1990s, his career winning total is rivaled by only the legendary Warren Spahn. A consistent Gold Glove winner and the first pitcher to win the Cy Young award in each of four consecutive seasons, Maddox was and remains a fan favorite of many Braves fans.

A master of control

Maddux was known for his total control over the game. His ability to read hitters and anticipate their every move is a major part of why he managed to become the only MLB pitcher to ever pose 15 or more wins a season for more than a decade and a half. His eighteen total Gold Glove awards is a record that is unlikely to be surpassed any time soon. Moreover, during that remarkable four year run as the Cy Young winner, Maddux maintained an Earned Run Average of less than two, even as he amassed a record of 75 victories with only 29 losses.

Consistent production

Maddux was always a consistent pitching star while with the Braves, and was nearly always in contention for the Cy Young. In 1995, his Braves team was in the midst of a stellar year, and the statistics demonstrate Maddux’ crucial role in that run. Though the League’s ERA for the season stood at more than 4, Maddux’ personal ERA was 1.63. As a starting pitcher, he had a record of 19 victories on the season, with only 2 losses. In large measure due to his production, the Braves stormed into, and won, the 1995 World Series. In that series, Maddux went 1-1 – winning the first game against the great Orel Hershiser, but losing Game 5.

Along with Tom Glavine and John Smoltz, Maddux was a part of a trio of Braves pitchers who dominated the mound for a decade. With those three leading the team, the Braves owned their division title every year that Maddux was with the program. For many observers of the game, the only thing more remarkable than the triad’s production is the fact that they somehow never managed to win more than just the one World Series title!

Throughout his lengthy career, Maddux watched as his fastball gradually lost its once vaunted speed. That never seemed to bother him, though – and for good reason. Neither speed nor power had never been the principal components of Maddux’ success on the mound. Rather, his was a game of control and composure. His sinking fastball was the pitch that saved him as much as anything, as he could consistently force hitters into ground ball situations – relying on his defense to make the plays behind him. That pitch, and his almost uncanny ability to get inside of a hitter’s head caused him to be one of the most feared starting pitchers in the major leagues, and is a major reason why many consider him to be one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

New York Mets – Not Just the “Other” New York Team

New York has a long and glory-filled history of baseball, being not only the home to the perennial championship contending New York Yankees, but having had several other important baseball franchises play within the city as well. With the Yankees firmly established in the American League, the New York representatives of the National League have included such franchises as the Brooklyn Dodgers (who moved to Los Angeles) and the New York Giants (who relocated to San Francisco in the same year). The 1957 relocation of both teams to the other end of the country prompted the National League to undergo an expansion in order to make sure that the League maintained a team in that lucrative baseball market. The result was the forming of theNew York Mets.

Finding a home in Queens

It took a couple years for the team to eventually make its way to a brand new Shea Stadium in Queens, where the team would play all of its home games until 2009 – when it moved to Citi Field. Though the Yankees have always held a special place in the hearts of many New Yorker, the Mets made an immediate impact on the fans and drew what were at the time some of the largest crowds in baseball history. For nearly thirty years they even managed to outdraw their cross-town rivals. It would not be until 1999 – in the heights of the Yankees turn of the millennium dynasty – that the American League team from New York would once again claim the attendance edge.

Championship baseball

The Mets have been participants in four World Series contests, and have won two of those. Those four appearances are the most by any new expansion franchise in the history of the League. Their first title came in the 1969 season, with the second being won seventeen years later in 1986. Since their last championship, they have appeared in the World Series only once more, in 2000 (the Subway Series between their American League rivals, the Yankees), a series which was won by the Bronx Bombers. Though most Mets fans and many commentators predicted a seven game contest, the Yankees won in five. Unfortunately for Mets fans, the fifth game was won in Shea Stadium, forcing the Mets fans to watch in agony as their hated rivals celebrated their twenty-sixth World Series title before their eyes.

The Mets franchise has consistently been home to some of baseball’s most consistent pitching, but still holds one of baseball’s less glorious records. That record involves the fact that no pitcher in a Mets uniform has ever managed to complete a no-hitter. In fact, the team has played more games without a no-hitter than any of the other teams in the Major Leagues. Despite that pitching oddity, the Mets continually field squads full of competent hitters who play sound defense, making them a legitimate divisional threat each and every season. As a result, Mets fans know that it is only a matter of time before their beloved team brings home another Championship

Kansas City Royals – George Brett and the Art of Hitting

To fans of the Kansas City Royalswho followed their team from 1971 through 1993, the Name George Brett can still stir powerful emotions. The only player in the history of the MLB to win a batting title in three consecutive decades, Brett remained a slugger through and through for the entirety of his career – a career in which he wore a Royals uniform for every single game he played. After retiring in 1993, Brett made a statement in which he indicated that he could have easily played one more season with the Royals, but that his motivations would have been about money rather than the love of the game. He thought the game was deserving of better. That, for many fans, is how Brett’s time with the Royals will always be remembered – he loved the game and it showed.

Entering the League

Brett was the 29th selection of the ’71 draft, and was chosen by the Royals team he would be a part of for his entire career. Though he was recognized early on as a fairly competent third baseman, no one could have guessed at the time that he would become such a formidable hitter. In fact, his first few seasons with the Royals were less than spectacular from the plate. It turned out that he was leaving a number of positions on the plate uncovered with his stance, enabling the more seasoned pitchers in the League to make the most of his times at bat.

Becoming a great hitter

That was pointed out to him by Charlie Lau, the famous batting coach, after Lau began advising him in 1974. Pride was never a serious problem for Brett, and he listened to everything that Lau had to tell him, adopting his suggestions with the fervor of a religious convert. The next season saw Brett’s average rise to more than .300, with the following year’s average hitting the .333 mark – which also earned him 1976’s batting title. For the rest of the 1970s, George Bret continued to bat like a man possessed, and his team went on to win the division title in three consecutive years.

In 1980, Brett ended his season with a hitting average of .390, though he famously spent the entire year around the .400 mark. After a down year a few seasons later, Brett took his game to task and revived his game to once again match his old standards. The following year, he hit more than one out of every three times at bat and was a big part in helping the Royals to win the division again. He had a similar performance in the League Championship, the managed a .370 average for the World Series. Needless to say, the Royals won.

With his career average of hitting .305, while blasting away for more than 300 home runs and 3,000 hits – as well as more than 1,500 runs batted in – Brett remains the gold standard for third baseman, and a deserving hero for the fans of the Royals.
